The Slovenian star was traded by the Phoenix Suns ahead of the deadline after making it clear that he wouldn’t re-sign with the franchise in the summer.
Dragic requested a move to either the Heat, the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers, and after some discord with Phoenix, he eventually completed a move to Miami.
While the Heat are understood to be set to offer Dragic a maximum contract in the summer, he still remains adamant that he will consider all his options before making a decision.
“I’m going to stay in the hotel until the end of the season, and then we’re going to see how the team is going to develop. I just want to be focused on trying to help the team as much as possible get to the playoffs.” Dragic said, notes Bleacher Report.
“But at the end of the season, of course I’m going to think about that option of staying. I’m really hoping to stay in Miami because I really like it, but you never know. I’m a free agent, so I’m going to explore my options.”
Miami have the advantage in the sense that they can offer Dragic a longer deal with more money, but if he believes that there is a better situation for him elsewhere, then he may well leave that on the table to flourish with either the Lakers or the Knicks.
The Heat are considered a genuine threat with a fully healthy roster including the likes of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, but it appears as though they will need to convince their recently recruited point guard that his future lies on South Beach.
