Coach K insists that Love would compliment James immediately while Wiggins needs time…
Duke and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski has insisted that he would not hesitate in trading for Kevin Love as the All-Star is linked with a switch to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After bringing back LeBron James, the Cavs are continuing their efforts to become an immediate contender for an NBA championship next season, with Mike Miller and Ray Allen potentially joining the team.
However, the most talked about situation regarding the franchise at this stage is whether or not they will sign No.1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins or use him in a trade deal to acquire Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Krzyzewski is in no doubt over what he would do, and he believes that with James in the prime years of his career, Cleveland need to add Love now and ensure that they are a contender as opposed to hoping to develop Wiggins with a view of him becoming a serious threat in the league in a year or two.
“There’s absolutely not one second of hesitancy. I’d trade for Kevin Love,” Coach K said, CBS Sports report.
“That’s not saying anything bad about any of the other youngsters. Love’s an All-Star and he’s a double-double guy. But he’s a double-double guy who can spread the court. There aren’t many double-double guys who can spread the floor; he can go inside and outside. There may be a low post player that gets you a double double, but Love, you can do a lot of different things with him.”
Nevertheless, the latest speculation is that the Cavs are closing in on signing Wiggins, which would put any trade deal involving Love on hold for 30 days. However, it is understood that the Cavs are trying to push to trade for Love without involving their No.1 overall pick.
The Timberwolves had previously been in discussions with the Golden State Warriors over a trade deal involving the 25-year-old, but their apprehension in including Klay Thompson in those talks have ensured that there is unlikely to be a compromise any time soon.
As a result, it remains to be seen where the power forward’s future lies, although Krzyzewski also pointed out that a trio of Love, James and point guard Kyrie Irving will undoubtedly get the organisation to where they want to be quicker than any other scenario.
