Paul George unsure on Indiana Pacers return this season
The Indiana Pacers have announced that former All-Star G Paul George will return to action this Sunday against the Miami Heat.
The announcement, made via a press release on NBA.com, comes amidst speculation that George might not play in the 2014-15 season at all after he broke his right leg last August. George’s injury occurred during an intra-squad exhibition game at Las Vegas while practicing with Team USA in preparation for the World Cup of Basketball.
“The recovery has been a long process and this is another step in the process,” George said. “I thank everyone, my family, friends, doctors, our training staff, coaches, the entire Pacers’ family for their support and encouragement. I’m excited, but at the same time I’m aware I’m still in a rehab stage and will continue to work to get back to full strength.”
The 24-year-old Paul George is a two-time NBA All-Star and was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2012-13. Last season he finished 9th in the NBA in points scored and finished 5th in the NBA in steals per game.
“We’re happy to have Paul back in uniform, and this is just another step in his rehabilitation from the injury,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He has worked hard to get to this point and still has work to do, but it’s a positive step toward what we hope will be a full recovery at some point. His minutes will be limited in games he plays as we evaluate his progress moving forward.”
At 33-43, the Indiana Pacers are a game-plus behind the Miami Heat for the 8th seed in the 2014-15 playoffs, but also trail the Boston Celtics, who have the 9th spot after Miami. Indiana is also holding a narrow lead over Charlotte.
