Curry was crowned the MVP this year after a stellar regular season with the Warriors, leading them to the No.1 seed in the Western Conference by playing some of the most exciting basketball in the league.
The 27-year-old has made no secret of his desire to become the new face of the NBA, and he is certainly on the path to doing so having won the award and is now pushing Golden State towards a championship.
According to a survey of 1,471 registered voters between May 7 and May 10, Curry was named the most popular NBA player in America after receiving 19 percent of the votes.
Cleveland Cavaliers star James was narrowly behind him with 18 percent, while Los Angeles Lakers veteran Kobe Bryant completed the top three with 14 percent of the share.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant and San Antonio Spurs veteran Tim Duncan were fourth and fifth respectively, while surprisingly Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose only received less than five percent of the total votes.
Given the former MVP is a regular name amongst the top selling jerseys in the league it is a surprise that he isn’t more popular, but it is no shock to see Curry top the list given his overall appeal to fans in the last few years.
The reigning MVP combines his play-making ability with his scoring as he is regarded as possibly the best shooter the game has ever seen, and he will undoubtedly be delighted to have topped this vote as he continues his ascent to the top of the NBA.
