The Houston Rockets (1-3) host the Los Angeles Clippers (3-1) in Game 5 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals hoping to avoid losing the series at home.
The Rockets will have a tough task ahead of them as the Clippers are coming off back-to-back wins with over 120 points scored, and have crossed the 100-point plane in every game in this series. In Sunday’s loss to the Clippers, the Rockets were outscored 43-25 in the 3rd quarter after an unsuccessful attempt to keep Clippers C DeAndre Jordan stuck at the free throw line. All it amount to was a 26-point double-double for the Clippers star Center as Rockets C Dwight Howard was held to just 7 points.
Meanwhile, the Clippers are on Cloud Nine and are just one win away from their first ever trip to the Western Conference Finals. All-Star F Blake Griffin put up 21 points without even making a 3-point attempt while G Chris Paul recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 assists. The only weak link in their dominating win over the Rockets on Sunday was a weak performance from F Matt Barnes, who missed all four of his three-point shots and finished with only 7 points in 30 minutes on the court. For the Clippers to win Game 5, every one of their starters needs to be rolling on all cylinders.
Prediction: Houston Rockets win Game 5 – The Rockets have at least one more big performance in them, and it’s hard to imagine that they’ll let the Clippers walk all over them in their own building with so much on the line. Look for Dwight Howard to recover from Sunday’s mess with a big game and for James Harden to score upwards of 24 points.
