Spurs now lead their rivals 2-0 in the Western Conference finals.
The San Antonio Spurs secured a 93-89 overtime win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night which sees them open up a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference finals.
Having sealed a blowout win in Game 1, it was a much more tense affair as the Grizzlies were able to play at their pace at times and benefited from an all-round improved performance from key players.
However, it was San Antonio point guard Tony Parker who continues to be the highlight of this series, as the Frenchman had 15 points and a playoff-high 18 assists to lead them to victory.
His endless running coupled with his ability to drive to the basket to open up space for his team-mates makes him one of the best guards in the league, and he will hoping to maintain his current form through the rest of the postseason.
The 30-year-old is averaging 14.5 points and 13.5 assists through the two games against the Grizzlies and he is certainly set to be a determining factor in who comes away from this series to advance to the Finals.
Veteran Tim Duncan scored 17 points including six in overtime to help Gregg Popovich’s men over the line, and while there was an improved performance from Zach Randolph along with Marc Gasol, the Spurs bigs were able to limit their scoring to a manageable level.
The Grizzlies lost the first two games to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round, before going on to win the next four to progress. They return home for Game 3 on Saturday and will hope to get themselves in this series with a win. However, another defeat may spell disaster for their ambitions of reaching the NBA Finals.
