Los Angeles Clippers star forward Blake Griffin has casually been linked with a move to the Portland Trail Blazers, although it remains highly unlikely to ever happen.

The link comes as a result of Griffin’s previous working relationship with general manager Neil Olshey, who now works in the same position in Portland.
With the Trail Blazers considering their options if power forward LaMarcus Aldridge opts to move on in free agency this summer, Griffin has naturally become a target regardless of how set he is in LA.
Yahoo Sports’ Marc J Spears has reiterated that this is just a rumour at this stage, but nonetheless there is a suggestion that the Clippers star could at least consider the prospect of making the move.
“This is a rumor. Let me say that three times. This is a rumor. This a rumor. This is a rumor. Blake Griffin,” Spears noted.
“Obviously, there’s a connection there with the GM. And you wonder, if LaMarcus is interested in the Clippers, playing with Chris Paul. Could Neil Olshey get his old superstar with the Clippers in Portland?”
Portland will have to eventually come to an understanding with Aldridge over where his future lies, and if he wants to leave then they will at least hope that he helps them make the most of it rather than leave them severely weakened by walking away.
However, there are numerous issues with this rumour as it just doesn’t stack up. Griffin would arguably not want to leave a team that is on the verge of making the Western Conference finals and are showing signs of overcoming their playoff woes.
Further, he is playing alongside one of the best point guards in the league in Chris Paul, and is playing in one of the biggest markets in the NBA in Los Angeles.
As he continues to develop his game, there is no reason why either party would want to split at this stage, and although it seems like a good idea with the Olshey link, ultimately it is so unlikely to come to fruition.
