The Boston Celtics are reportedly also looking for a trade deal involving Jeff Green and they are hopeful that they can receive a first-round Draft pick in return.
According to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, Boston have been “consistently shopping forward Green and trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round Draft pick”.
Whether or not they will be successful in their push to receive a first round pick remains to be seen, as it is debatable as to whether Green would warrant it.
However, it is clear that the organisation is ready to move into their second phase of the rebuilding process with Green likely to be joined at the exit door by point guard Rajon Rondo.
According to reports on Thursday, the Celtics are in advanced discussions with the Dallas Mavericks over a trade deal involving Rondo, and they are expected to receive multiple draft picks, including a future first-rounder, along with promising center Brandan Wright in the package deal.
Combined with any possible deal that they are able to make for Green, Celtics coach Brad Stevens is likely to see a lot of changes before the end of the current season and it will give him more pieces to work with in the future.
However, Celtics fans will likely be disappointed with the departures of two of their bigger names, particularly Rondo who has returned from injury in a big way this year and had been rumoured to wanting to stay in Boston and lead the rebuild.
That idea now looks unlikely if speculation is to be believed, and both Rondo and Green could be suiting up in a new city before the season is out.
