The two teams have previously been in talks over a deal which would have included the Charlotte Hornets but that failed to materialise. Essentially the main trade piece will be the same this time round with Lopez moving to the Thunder.
However, despite negotiations breaking down twice last month, it is reported by Yahoo Sports that the deal could be back on with the Nets hoping to convince Reggie Jackson to join but also to get a guarantee that he will re-sign with them.
Jackson will be a restricted free agent this summer so if the Nets trade for him, they will be able to match any offer that he receives from elsewhere in the league at the end of the season.
As a result, unless Brooklyn choose to let him leave, then Jackson will remain with the franchise until 2016 where he would then be set to re-sign or move elsewhere.
In addition though, the Thunder will have to send out an additional player in order to make the deal financially viable as Lopez and Jackson don’t have matching salaries.
In separate moves which could help the Nets’ situation, Joe Johnson has also been linked with an exit from the franchise while Kevin Garnett has been paired with a possible return to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With Brooklyn also reportedly up for sale, they are keen on making wholesale changes to the roster after paying the luxury tax over the past two years, and their expensive gamble ultimately failed with the likes of Lopez, Johnson, Garnett, Paul Pierce and Deron Williams all linked with a departure.
