Nets put Williams, Johnson and Lopez on trade block: [Report] All change in Brooklyn.
Lopez out with back strain: Nets center set for another spell on sidelines.
Johnson slams Nets selfish play: Former Hawks star unimpressed with current team play.
The Brooklyn Nets reportedly don’t wish to trade Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez, but instead would be willing to part with one or two of their three big names.
A report emerged earlier this month that all three Nets stars were on the trade block as the organisation looked to move in a new direction after their expensive gamble did not pay off.
After being hit with a sizeable luxury tax bill and such last season after signing the likes of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to pair with Lopez. Williams and Johnson, the Nets could only manage a run to the second-round of the playoffs.
Their expensively assembled roster has already started to be broken up with Pierce moving to the Washington Wizards, while their current Big Three are all rumoured to be ready to move on.
However, according to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, the more likely scenario is that the franchise will trade one or two of the trio as opposed to all three, and they will then continue to rebuild around them as they want to stay competitive in the short term as well.
Brooklyn look in need of a shake up considering that they are 10-13 for the season and are barely hanging on to their spot in the playoffs. Although such are the struggles of teams in the Eastern Conference, they are more than likely to be present when the post-season gets underway next year.
Nevertheless, as they look set to pay the luxury tax again this year with repeater tax kicking in next season, a move for one of the three top players could provide some much needed relief.
