With the trade deadline fast approaching on February 19, the general consensus around the league is that most teams will not be active given that most of the meaningful moves have already happened.
However, there are a few intriguing situations brewing, with the Nuggets looking to trade Afflalo but they will want a significant package in return.
“Among teams Nuggets have discussed Afflalo with are Portland, Chicago, Clippers, Miami and Sacramento. He’s got a player option next year,” Ramona Shelburne of ESPN noted on Twitter.
She added that the speculation is that Denver’s asking price on Afflalo has been high so far, and given what they were able to obtain in the deal which sent Timofey Mozgov to the Cleveland Cavaliers, they are certainly capable of obtaining something valuable.
Afflalo is averaging 14.7 points per game but he has taken a huge dip in efficiency since his move from the Orlando Magic last summer.
Ultimately, the Nuggets system has not worked as hoped which has led to the problems both on and off the court for coach Brian Shaw this season, but it is widely acknowledged that the guard would make an impact on a contender given his skill-set.
The Clippers seem an unlikely landing spot given their position against the salary cap, but the other teams involved in talks may well be willing to make the necessary moves to acquire Afflalo ahead of the playoffs.
