The Nuggets currently sit in 13th spot in the Western Conference with a 20-39 record, and it has been a miserable season for the organisation both on and off the court.
More recently, Denver have gone on a six-game losing streak and have gone 2-19 since January 14 which ultimately was enough for management to make their decision.
After being considered a strong contender in the West just two years ago, the franchise has drastically regressed since deciding to fire George Karl and Shaw has encountered numerous problems in his time in charge.
While injuries and lack of form have also played roles in their demise, Shaw has struggled to manage egos and get the best out of his players as the front office also started to make changes in trade moves aimed at rebuilding.
Both Timofey Mozgov and Arron Afflalo left ahead of the trade deadline, and it is expected that more could follow them out of the exit door in the summer.
The Nuggets courted further controversy earlier this week when it was reported that the players broke a team huddle with a chant of ‘six weeks’. Many interpreted it negatively as it suggested that the players were looking ahead to the end of the season with just six weeks remaining on the schedule.
While it could have meant something else entirely, the general feeling around the team has been negative for some time and it was often suggested by experts that Shaw was out of his depth.
