Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James could return from injury to participate in practice on Monday before returning to action against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.
The Cavs have gone 1-7 since James was sidelined with back and knee strains, and the pressure is undoubtedly mounting on the franchise as they fell to 19-19 for the season after a heavy loss to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
James has spent time in Miami as part of his rehabilitation process while he has travelled with the team more recently, however, it is unclear as to when he will definitely make his comeback.
“LeBron James could return to action Tuesday in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ game against the Phoenix Suns, provided he has a strong practice on Monday,” Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reported.
Given Cleveland’s struggles, James’ absence is undoubtedly hurting them as they currently sit in sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.
However, they face a delicate balance between getting him back as soon as possible and protecting his long-term health, and so it will likely be determined during Monday’s practice as to whether or not he has recovered sufficiently to take to the court the following night.
Meanwhile, coach David Blatt bemoaned all the “trials and tribulations” that the team has had to go through during a problematic first few months in charge for him.
As well as injuries, the Cavs have seen new faces arrive which will likely see them require a settling in period to adjust to the new rotations while Blatt himself has come under intense pressure with speculation last month suggesting that his job was under threat.
Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, along with his players, that once they get a fully healthy roster, things will start to take a turn for the better.
