Young has been as entertaining as ever off the court this year while averaging 13.4 points per game on a career-low 36 percent shooting from the field this season.
While he has clashed with both coach Byron Scott and Kobe Bryant at times, he remains an exciting part of the roster that can be a real threat off the bench when on form.
However, that has been too inconsistent for the Lakers’ liking this year, and so it is reported that they could be considered their options even though it might be difficult to move him considering his drop in value.
“If the Lakers have their wish, this will mark the end of the so-called Swaggy P era. The Lakers will entertain trade offers for him, according to a team official familiar with the front office’s thinking,” the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
“Still, complications could emerge in trading Young, who still remains under contract for three more years at $16.33 million. Young’s poor play could sour his value as well as the Lakers’ reluctance to attach any draft picks just to expend him.”
The 29-year-old has been out for a considerable amount of time with a fractured knee in recent weeks which will also have an effect on the level of interest this summer, while his character can certainly split opinion.
While some deem him to be different and entertaining, others will argue that he is a distraction in the locker room and one that many teams can’t afford to have unless he is at the height of his powers.
Whether or not he is still in Los Angeles next season remains to be seen, but Swaggy P remains confident that he will still be in a Lakers uniform beyond this summer.
