NBA Season Preview 2014/15 Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly looking to bolster their roster and they are interested in Miami Heat’s Luol Deng and Boston Celtics’ Jeff Green.
There has been a significant amount of activity in the market this week, and the Grizzlies are expected to involve themselves as they look to improve their scoring options on the wing.
Deng and Green have reportedly emerged as the main targets, according to ESPN sources, but no deal is imminent as there is still plenty of time ahead of the deadline on February 19.
It is unknown as to whether or not Miami would be willing to discuss Deng as he is not even half-way through his first season of the tw0-year deal worth $19.9m that he received in free agency last year.
However, given that the Heat are 15-20 for the season and don’t appear to be capable of mounting a serious challenge this year, they might be looking at the long-term and will start to acquire future Draft picks or other trade assets.
Meanwhile, Green has been speculated as being available for some time even despite the departure of Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks last month, although Green told local reporters last week that he didn’t want to be traded.
That decision may not be his to make as the Celtics continue to rebuild, and any Grizzlies offer will likely feature the $7.7m expiring contract of Tayshaun Prince as well as the promise of future draft compensation which will undoubtedly appeal to Boston.
Memphis are 25-10 for the season but with Dallas and the Houston Rockets making moves in the trade market to strengthen, the Grizzlies look set to follow their lead and ensure that they are ready for a strong playoff push.
