James makes first move after opting out of contract…
The Miami Heat ‘Big Three’, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, reportedly got together on Wednesday to discuss their futures.
James opted out of the final two years of his contract worth $42m on Tuesday, while Wade and Bosh both have until midnight to decide whether or not they will follow suit or continue in their current deals.
The Miami Herald reports that the meeting took place at a South Beach eatery, and the trio will have discussed at length their options moving forward after their NBA Finals defeat to the San Antonio Spurs at the end of last season.
While James has reached the Finals in all four years with the franchise, it remains to be seen whether or not he wishes to explore his options and a new challenge elsewhere, or he will potentially re-sign with a salary cut in order to allow the Heat front office to strengthen the roster.
In 2006, James, Wade and Bosh consulted each other before signing matching three-year extensions that made them all free agents in 2010.
That year, they all signed deals that gave them matching opt-out clauses for this week, and as in 2010, they continue to consult each other on their plans moving forward.
It is understood that James is also in contact with his close friend, Carmelo Anthony, who will also test free agency after opting out of his contract with the New York Knicks on Monday to explore the market.
However, it is widely reported that the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks will all provide stiff competition for the Heat in securing his signature, while there is still a significant possibility that he will choose to remain in New York.
