Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic is a popular target around the NBA according to reports as several teams are understood to have inquired about him.
The Suns signed Eric Bledsoe to a five-year deal worth $70m this past summer and also handed Isaiah Thomas a four-year deal worth $27m in a sign-and-trade acquisition from the Sacramento Kings.
Initially, the thought behind the move for Thomas was an insurance policy in case Bledsoe opted not to re-sign with the franchise, but after he did, Phoenix were left a with packed backcourt and a three-man guard rotation.
Dragic has arguably suffered the most since the system began as both Bledsoe and Thomas have tendencies to take over games and handle the ball while Dragic spends time on the perimeter waiting to be involved.
It is expected that the Slovenian star will opt out of the final year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and the trade offers are said to be already rolling in.
According to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, “multiple teams have inquired about what it would take to break up the Suns’ three-headed guard rotation”.
Berger suggests that the anticipated rise in the salary cap from the NBA’s $24 billion TV deal could give hope to Phoenix to keep them all in tact, and the consensus is that they want him to stay and the player himself has previously insisted that he wants to remain too.
However, as displayed in the win over the New York Knicks on Saturday, the situation may change if Dragic continues to find himself on the outside looking in when it comes to running the offense.
