The New York Knicks are reportedly looking to push through trade deals for veteran point guard Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani.
The Knicks look set to continue their roster overhaul after trading both JR Smith and Iman Shumpert to the Cleveland Cavaliers last week.
In addition, the franchise also waived center Samuel Dalembert to start the process of breaking up the roster and rebuilding in free agency and the Draft ahead of next season.
It comes after the worst start to a season in the franchise’s history as the Knicks currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 5-35 record.
Team president Phil Jackson insisted last week that the fans should blame him for their struggles this year and that coach Derek Fisher is doing what he can in the situation. However, he also warned them that the trade deals might not be over ahead of the February 19 deadline.
However, one player the Knicks are not looking to move, according to ESPN, is Amar’e Stoudemire as he will remain for the rest of the season at least.
The 32-year-old former All-Star could well re-sign with the organisation at a reduced rate in the summer as despite being plagued by injuries, he has proven that he can still contribute with just months left on his contract worth $23.4m.
While Calderon would seemingly be in demand as he would upgrade and add depth to numerous clubs at the point guard position, his contract, worth $15.1m across next season, could be a stumbling block.
Meanwhile, Bargnani is likely to be waived next month if New York can’t find a deal for the former No.1 overall pick and his $11.5m expiring contract before the deadline.
