Nuggets want to trade for Brook Lopez: Denver in the market to upgrade their frontcourt.
According to ESPN, the Sixers consented to waive McGee after their loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night and filed it before the midnight deadline which makes the former Denver Nuggets star eligible to appear in the playoffs this season with another team.
It had been claimed that the two parties had started buy-out talks on Sunday and it will soon become official as McGee did not surrender his salary this season or next and once he clears waivers, he will become a free agent.
McGee completed his move to Philadelphia ahead of the trade deadline which saw the Nuggets acquire a future first-round pick while the Sixers have now made their move to make further salary cap space as they continue to rebuild their roster.
The former Denver star realistically had no future in Philadelphia given the amount of young talent in the team’s frontcourt with Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid expected to become franchise cornerstones in the coming years.
However, it is still a disappointing situation for the 27-year-old who has unfortunately been regarded as somewhat of a joke in his career given his regular appearances on ‘Shaqtin A Fool’.
McGee has averaged 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game this season as he continues to work his way back after injury problems in recent years.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen which playoff chasing team is willing to take him on and believe that he will make a significant impact for the remainder of the year.
