The Sacramento Kings are reportedly keen on appointing George Karl as their next head coach after firing Mike Malone last week, and they are not serious about hiring Mark Jackson.
The Kings made the shocking decision to part with Malone last week despite a promising start to the season which was only tempered by the loss of DeMarcus Cousins to illness.
Had the Sacramento big man remained healthy, Malone may well still be in a job, but it appears as though the franchise had other ideas and opted to send him to the exit door.
Since his departure, Karl, Jackson and Vinny Del Negro have all been linked with the role, with interim coach Tyrone Corbin currently attempting to ensure that they remain in contention for the playoffs.
According to Pro Basketball Talk sources, the Kings are keen on appointing Karl, but they are hesitant in paying the expected asking price of $5m or more per year.
It had been reported that the organisation hierarchy met with former Warriors coach Jackson last week, however he isn’t expected to be in the running moving forward and the meeting was seen as mutually beneficial to both parties after reports of it taking place were leaked.
Karl has openly suggested that he would be interested in taking over in Sacramento, and owner Vivek Ranadive, GM Pete D’Alessandro and advisor Chris Mullin will be eager to settle the players and fans with a strong appointment to get the Kings back on track.
