According to speculation in recent years, Thibodeau’s relationship with the Bulls front office has been on the verge of breaking point and a split is inevitable.
However, up to this point they have remained tied together given their success on the court, but it remains to be seen how long that understanding lasts as the reports fail to go away.
Thibodeau has two more years remaining on his contract after this season, but with speculation claiming that Fred Hoiberg has already been lined up as a possible replacement, the latest suggestion is that Thibodeau has started the process of considering his other options.
“League sources say that third parties connected to Thibodeau have been exploring what his potential other options would be, including the Orlando Magic,” according to Bleacher Report.
Naturally, the best solution for Thibodeau would be to work through his issues in Chicago and lead the team to a championship this year.
However, even that may not be enough to ensure that they stay together beyond this summer and so it remains to be seen what the franchise decides to do moving forward.
It is highly unlikely that any decision will be made until the summer, as the Bulls are set for the playoffs and will look to become a genuine threat to their rivals after a regular season of inconsistency.
Thibodeau has gained support from around the league in the midst of the speculation, with many recognising the work he has done despite losing franchise star Derrick Rose to injuries over the past three years
