He and fellow Hawks player Pero Antic were arrested for allegedly interfering with the police when they were trying to set up a crime scene after Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed.
The police report states that Sefolosha was resisting arrest, but the officers are facing scrutiny due to the fact that Sefolosha’s fibula was left untreated overnight.
The National Basketball Players Association has expressed concern with the circumstances surrounding the Hawks guard’s arrest, and they plan to investigate the matter as a result.
“The players’ union is concerned about the circumstances of Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic’s arrest and is doing its own investigation of the situation,” NBPA spokesman Tara Greco said to ESPN.
Sefolosha also maintains his innocence and has hired a lawyer. His attorney Alex Spiro claims that there is a TMZ video of the incident and that it “speaks for itself.”
TMZ claims that the video of consists of Sefolosha being grabbed by the neck by one of the officers before being shoved to the ground.
