Penn State was the centerpiece of arguably the biggest college football scandal in history when former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was discovered to have been molesting young boys in the team’s locker room showers.
Head coach Joe Paterno also came under fire for not reporting the incident, and he was assumed to have covered it up. This caused the NCAA to lay down the hammer on the program by banning them from bowl games for four years.
They were also fined $60 million and lost 20 total scholarships per year, but they have reportedly been commended for their efforts to regain integrity in the program.
As a result, they have been rewarded with postseason eligibility, and they will regain scholarships as well.
Here are a couple of tweets from the NCAA’s official Twitter account.
Due to Penn State’s progress in ensuring athletics dept functions with integrity, NCAA immediately restores football postseason eligibility.
