The Deers pulled off a memorable 3-2 win against the Malaysia Cup favourites.
Negeri Sembilan coach Ridzuan Abu Shah was full of praise for his side after they shocked the Malaysia Cup to the core by beating Kelantan.
A second half brace from Fabio Leandro Barbossa brought an unexpected three points for The Deers who now lead Group C – dubbed the “group of death” – and have put themselves in the frame for a place in the quarterfinals.
Despite the gravity of the win Ridzuan insists he is remaining grounded and there is still some way to go before Negeri can dream of progression to the knock-out phase of the tournament.
“I should be thankful to the boys for showing great composure and discipline to win this tough match. I talked to the players to steal one point. It is our luck to win in Kota Bharu,” he told Goal.
“Yes, it is a good win for us to grab a spot in the quarter finals, but it is still a long way to reach there. I will have two weeks off, and it will be a good moment for us to prepare, and I hope those who are injured will recover in time.”
