The Deers face Terengganu in their opening Group C match.
Negeri Sembilan Head Coach Ridzuan Abu Shah insists his players are happy to be labelled as ‘underdogs’ in the Malaysia Cup.
After being relegated from the Malaysia Super League last season the odds on the Deers checking out before the knock-out phase are high after they were drawn in Group C with defending champions Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu.
The latter pose their first opposition and Ridzuan feels their fall guy status relieves the pressure on the players and could possibly work to their advantage.
“I reminded the players not to be complacent and stay focused for the match,” Goal Malaysia report him as saying.
“We will try our best because Terengganu are the favourites in the Malaysia Cup tie.”
With a fully fit roster at his disposal Ridzuan is optimistic that his charges will be ready to race out of the traps in their opening game and set the tone for a successful tournament campaign.
“I am confident that they are capable of performing their tasks in the match against Terengganu,” he added.
Negeri Sembilan will travel to face Terengganu at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium on Tuesday.
