Manchester United could be set to secure an important defensive signing, with Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi confirming that he is set to leave Eredivisie club Feyenoord this summer, according to the Express.
The classy centre back played an important role for new United manager Louis van Gaal as the Netherlands reached the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup – and it is clear that United must be on the look-out for new blood in central defence this summer.
The Red Devils saw experienced central defensive duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leave the club on free transfers this summer, leaving a clear void at the heart of the club’s central defence.
Martins Indi would go some way to fill this, but he is another relatively inexperienced central defender to add to the likes of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, all of whom are in a similar position.
It may be that van Gaal chooses to go for a more experienced option to compliment his youngsters – although the former Ajax manager did show huge amounts of faith in Eredivisie youngsters such as Martins Indi during the World Cup.
His club and international teammate and partner Stefan de Vrij has also been linked with an Old Trafford move, but it now looks as though he may be joining Lazio.
