Spikes is thought to be involved in a car accident on the I-495 freeway, as indicated by his car being found damaged there and registered under his name.
The vehicle was abandoned though, and ESPN report there could be a connection with a hit-and-run incident.
There were three people injured in this accident, including a 12-year-old boy. He and his parents were rear-ended by the vehicle that Spikes allegedly drove.
This puts Spikes in danger of receiving up to two years in jail if convicted of hit-and-run.
He will be in even more trouble if it is discovered that he lied about hitting a deer, which was not found in the area.
Spikes had previously spent four seasons with the Patriots. The 2010 second-round pick was let go in free agency before the 2014 season as he signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.
The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl without him.
He will no longer be with the Patriots or even another NFL team if he is in fact responsible for this incident.
