£10m new boy has debut cut short.
Midfielder Emre Can has been withdrawn after just 20 minutes of his Liverpool debut because of injury.
The 20-year-old, who joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee in the region of £10m earlier this month, was included in the starting XI in Saturday’s preseason friendly at Preston North End.
He looked like an impressive presence during his short time on the pitch, before being substituted and replaced by Jordan Ibe.
Can did not go down the tunnel for treatment, instead opting to sit on the bench for the rest of the first half.
It does not appear that Can’s injury is serious. He appeared to strain a muscle and his removal was presumably just a cautionary move by manager Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool are currently 1-0 down at Deepdale, with League One Preston having taken the lead through Josh Brownhill on the stroke of half time.
