Martin Demichelis is sidelined with injury.
New Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis will be out until the end of October, after damaging knee ligaments during a practice match at the club’s training ground.
Demichelis, a former Bayern Munich stalwart, was taking part in a match between players not on international duty this weekend and injured his knee during a tackle.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the injury although lengthy will not require surgery, but does put manager Manuel Pellegrini in a difficult position defensively.
Captain Vincent Kompany is still absent with fitness issues, leaving it likely that the the Chilean will stick with Joleon Lescott and Matija Nastasic – who were less than convincing last time out against Hull City.
It is believed Micah Richards could also slot in beside either player, in what is a busy two weeks for CIty.
Premier League champions and fierce local rivals Manchester United come to the Etihad Stadium on September 21.
Pellegrini’s side also face their first Champions League tie of the season and potential banana skin trip to Wigan Athletic in the League Cup – the side that beat the Citizens in a surprise 1-0 victory during the FA Cup final in May.
