The Dutch boss wants the uncompromising midfielder de Jong to slot into his team at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s new boss Louis van Gaal is finally beginning to work his transfer magic at Old Trafford, and after having landed a couple of high profile targets in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw recently, the Dutchman has now set his sights on former Manchester City star Nigel de Jong, reports the Daily Mail.
The 62-year old manager is a big fan of AC Milan enforcer Nigel De Jong, and firmly believes that the tough tackling Dutchman would add some much needed steel to compliment the flair in his midfield.
De Jong has featured regularly for the Dutch national side under Van Gaal, and he too could be keen on a return to the Premier League.
The 29-year old played for United’s local rivals Man City from 2009 to 2012, and it would be interesting to see how comfortable he would be in switching allegiances just two years after moving from the Etihad Stadium.
A transfer fee in the region of £9 million is being mooted for the enforcer.
