Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United might not get the chance to make an offer to Aston Villa star forward Christian Benteke as the Villans are set to offer him a new deal.
According to BBC Sport, Aston Villa CEO Tom Fox says the club will offer their star a new deal amidst reports that multiple suitors are lining up to buy out his contract. Benteke’s current deal includes a £32.5 million which would presumably be removed should he sign a new deal this summer.
“If Christian wanted to leave, would we stand in his way? It’s very difficult to make a blanket statement about a player wanting to leave,” Fox said.
“There has been a lot of speculation and I’m not going to contribute to it or play any of our transfer strategy out in the press… But we will offer Christian Benteke a new deal this summer, of course we will.”
Benteke almost single-handedly saved Aston Villa from relegation thanks to a dominant performance in April in which he was named Premier League Player of the Month. Benteke was crucial in Aston Villa recording seven much-needed wins from March through May and even recorded a hat trick in a draw against QPR.
Liverpool and Man United have been listed as the most likely suitors with Chelsea and Arsenal also in the mix.
