Despite missing two games to an oblique strain, Saints QB Drew Brees did not miss a beat on offense, throwing two TDs in the first quarter.
The New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts 23-17 in Week 3 of the NFL preseason.
The Saints struck first with a TD in the first quarter and never gave up the lead after that, taking a 20-10 lead into the second half and scoring a FG 1:54 left in the game to give them a final score of 23-17.
Saints QB Drew Brees went 9 of 15 for 128 yards and 2 TDs in the first quarter during his first preseason appearance. Brees missed the first two games due to an oblique strain he suffered in late July. TE Jimmy Graham had 2 receptions for 49 yards but no TDs. RB Mark Ingram, who recently requested a heavier work load and more plays in the passing game, got his wish partially granted to the tune of 8 carries for a team-leading 46 rushing yards, but had no catches or targets in the passing game.
The Colts and QB Andrew Luck got to see all three of their big-name receivers – Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton and Hakeem Nicks – on the field for the first time this preseason. However, their combined contribution was minimal as they combined for only three receptions on 8 targets for 23 yards (18 from Nicks).
