Saints head coach Sean Payton was very upset with the increase in the number of penalty calls after Friday’s game against the Titans.
In the New Orleans Saints 31-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans in preseason action on Friday, the Saints were penalized 22 times.
While Saints head coach Sean Payton was visibly upset with the performance after the game, he noted to the media that he was more amazed that so many of the calls were right.
“Obviously, that was painful to watch,” Payton told the media. “I can’t recall ever a game with that many penalties. And here is the thing: most of the ones I saw were good calls. So this isn’t about a crew calling a lot of penalties, this is about something I have to do a better job with…”
During the game, with QB Drew Brees once again sitting out because of a strained oblique muscle, QBs Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin led the Saints to 4 successful TD drives.
Saints TE Jimmy Graham also caught two TDs, but did not hesitate to dunk the ball over the goalpost – a move that has been banned by the NFL and now results in a penalty.
