The New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees will look to improve to 2-2 on Sunday when they visit the AT&T Stadium to face the Dallas Cowboys.
Following on from their 34-31 win over the St. Louis Rams last Sunday, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has had disciplinary matters to deal with after Morris Claiborne walked out on the team on Tuesday after he was told that Orlando Scandrick would be taking his place against the Saints.
Despite returning to practice on Wednesday, Garrett revealed that Claiborne will face action, but he wouldn’t reveal details to the media while the player himself issued a public apology to his teammates.
Meanwhile, that is likely to be in the back of Garrett’s mind as we edge closer to the weekend, as ultimately he will need to come up with a strategy to stop Brees.
The Saints quarterback has thrown for 14 touchdowns and two interceptions while going 4-1 against the Cowboys with New Orleans, and he has had at least 352 yards in three consecutive wins.
While his form against the Cowboys in particular is impressive, he has also gotten off to a great start in general this season despite New Orleans falling to a 1-2 record, with tight end Jimmy Graham leading the team with 24 receptions for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
Nevertheless, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was pleased with what he saw last time out with quarterback Tony Romo throwing two second-half touchdowns after his lone interception was returned for a score in the first half. Jones said he saw “clutch performances on both sides of the ball” and was pleased with the manner in which the team redeemed itself.
DeMarco Murray continues to be a bright spot as the rushing leader in the NFL, and the ground games for both teams could be pivotal in the outcome as the Cowboys look to light up the AT&T.
