Redknapp to reignite Hoops’ interest in centre-half.
New QPR boss Harry Redknapp will reignite the Hoops’ interest in Tottenham defender Michael Dawson in January, fanatix has learnt.
Redknapp, who is set to be officially unveiled as QPR boss later today, met with owner Tony Fernandes on Tuesday and is understood to be have told the Malaysian he needs funds to strengthen the R’s leaky defence in January.
Top of Redknapp’s list of targets is thought to be Spurs skipper Dawson, who was wanted by his QPR predecessor Mark Hughes in August.
Hughes saw a £9m bid for the 28-year-old accepted by the North Londoners but Dawson chose to stay at White Hart Lane to fight for his place.
But the former Nottingham Forest stopper is yet to start a league game under Andre Villas-Boas and has been restricted to just five starts in all competitions this season.
Redknapp managed Dawson for three-and-a-half years at Tottenham and is well aware of the centre-half’s quality.
The 65-year-old is ready to return to his former club with a renewed bid in January and is also interested in midfielder Tom Huddlestone and veteran ‘keeper Brad Friedel.
