Justin Tuck believes Cruz has no reason not to appear at next week’s team workouts.
Despite currently being a restricted free agent, and no new contract currently agreed on, Victor Cruz is still expected to be at the team’s OTA’s (Organised team Activities) next Monday.
That is the view at least from fellow teammate Justin Tuck, who expects the wide receiver to be there regardless of his contract situation, and hopes at the end of it all, Cruz will still be a Giant next season.
Speaking to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, Tuck explained why he thinks Cruz should be at the meetings.
“He hasn’t said anything as far as why he wouldn’t be there, even though, obviously, the contract situation,” Tuck said.
“But for me, I think the biggest way to get things settled is to be there in good faith, I guess. But I can’t answer questions for Victor, he has to do what’s best for him.”
Tuck added: “And hopefully, when it’s all said and done, he’s doing a salsa in a Giants uniform this season. That’s all I’m worried about.”
While no offer has been made yet for the talented young receiver, it will be the most important signing of the off-season by New York if they do bring back the 26-year old next year.
Having emerged from being an undrafted free agent an becoming Eli Manning’s favourite target over the last two years, Cruz is seen as a key piece of the Giants offence, and if he were to leave, it would be seen as a major blunder by the front office.
