She passed away from her injuries on Sunday morning.
“She loved her family, and all of us were able to spend time with her in these final days,” Mara said in the statement. “All 11 of her children and our spouses and numerous grandchildren were with her when she passed away.”
In 1954, Ann married Wellington Mara, the Giants owner and soon became a well-respected and beloved figure within the organization. Even after Wellington Mara died in 2005, she maintained her status as a motherly figure to players and coaches in the organization.
The Mara family has owned the team since it was founded in 1925, but sold a 50 percent share to Bob Tisch in 1991. When Tisch died in 2005, the family’s share was moved to Steve Tisch, who now serves as the Chairman and Executive Vice President of the Giants organization.
Since 1954 the Giants have won four Super Bowls, an NFL Championship, 11 Conference Championships and have made 21 playoff appearances.
The Giants went 6-10 in 2014 but rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. was named Offensive Rookie of the Year, and his sensational catch on a Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys was named Play of the Year.
