NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants would be signing the versatile ex-Patriots RB to augment a backfield that needed help after finishing with one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL in 2014.
Former #Patriots RB Shane Vereen is expected to sign with the #Giants, I’m told. They needed a versatile back, will likely get it.

Though he only has eight career starts in four NFL seasons, Vereen has been one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. Over the last three seasons Vereen has 1,023 receiving yards and seven TDs. In 2014 he set career highs with 391 rushing yards, 447 receiving yards, 5 total TDs and recorded 11 receptions for 64 yards in the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Giants struggled to produce in the running game following the career-ending injury to RB David Wilson before the start of the season. RBs Rashad Jennings and rookie Andre Williams struggled mightily, recording just 3.8 and 3.3 yards/carry respectively.
