NY Giants QB Eli Manning returned to action after undergoing ankle surgery in the Spring.
The New York Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-16 in their Week 1 preseason game at MetLife Stadium.
Giants QB Eli Manning went 0-for-2 in his only drive of the game after undergoing ankle surgery in the Spring. Backup QB Ryan Nassib went 12-for-12 with 81 yards, but had a fumble that was returned for a TD by the Steelers in the 4th quarter. Fellow backup Curtis Painter went a perfect 7-for-7 with 68 yards and the game’s only passing TD to give the Giants the go-ahead score in the 4th quarter.
Giants RB Rashad Jennings impressed everyone with a dazzling 73-yard TD run in the 1st quarter. He finished the day with 5 carries for 85 yards and the TD. Meanwhile, Andre Williams, who impressed many in the Hall of Fame game against the Bills, had 7 carries for 35 yards. Both players are looking to take over the permanent starting RB job that David Wilson was forced to give up when he retired this past week.
The Steelers offense played relatively poorly, without a single RB gaining more than 18 total yards on the ground, but the defense was stout, recording the team’s lone TD off a fumble return in the fourth quarter. The story of the day for the Steelers’ offense was the debut of rookie speedster Dri Archer, who had an impressive 46-yard catch and finished with 2 receptions for 50 yards – the most by either team.
