New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced that QB Geno Smith would start in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos after suffering a 31-0 blowout loss to the San Diego Chargers that saw Smith benched for the first time this season.
Smith went 4 of 12 for a career low 27 passing yards and a half-ending INT. He finished the half with a 7.6 passer rating, the lowest of his 21 game career and the 2nd time since his rookie season he’s had a passer rating below 10.0.
Reports have also indicated Smith missed a Saturday team meeting doing to timing problems, for which Smith is likely to be fined. This comes one week after Smith was fined $12,000 for using the F-word at a heckling fan during a loss against the Detroit Lions.
The Jets current record is 1-4. Their current 4-game losing streak is the longest ever under head coach Rex Ryan.
