Trade rumours increase as Jets offered star cornerback to a number of teams during NFL Combine weekend.
As teams start to properly evaluate their talent as the league approaches free agency and the draft, teams will always look to find every advantage possible to make them a better team.
That can sometimes mean getting rid of your best player.
In any other country, that may seem the most idiotic thing ever. How can you get better by trading away your best player to another team?
Simple. You get money, players and draft picks. Something the Jets need a lot of.
Darrelle Revis won’t come cheap to whoever wants to acquire him. He will command at least two first round picks and third, plus maybe a player, which is gold dust to a team as bad as the Jets.
That is why the New York Daily news are reporting that the Jets management staff started to offer Revis to a number of teams when thy met at the NFL Combine this weekend.
Coming off an ACL tear, teams will have injury concerns over the corner back, but they have enough game film to know that this is a can’t miss opportunity to improve as a team – if they can afford it.
The Jets will want to strike a deal soon, so they can move forward with their draft strategy and adjust it to the amount of picks they have, which will be a lot more if teams over pay for the 27 year old.
It would be very much a case of one step back but two steps forward over a prolonged period, but in the future, this trade may just be the foundation for a bright future for the franchise.
