Jets QB Geno Smith’s receiving options appear to be dropping like flies. He has lost several receivers in just the past few weeks.
The Jets will place rookie WR Shaquelle “Shaq” Evans on injured reserve as he undergoes surgery for a severe shoulder injury suffered in a recent practice.
Evans, a 4th round draft pick in the 2014 Draft, is the second Jets draft pick this week to be scheduled for season-ending surgery. CB Dexter McDougle, the team’s 3rd-round pick, is also scheduled for surgery after suffering a torn ACL last week.
Another Jets rookie, WR Jalen Saunders, was hospitalized on Friday for an unknown medical issue that may have contributed to a minor car crash he was in. No details on the crash or the medical issue have been made public.
Jets receivers have been struggling mightily with injuries in this preseason. Starting WR and backup TE Jeff Cumberland both missed Saturday’s preseason game against the Bengals due to injuries.
Among other notable injuries for the Jets this week are starting Center Nick Mangold (turf toe), RB Chris Ivory (rib), and CB Dimitri Patterson (quadriceps, calf, ankle).
