Houston Texans writer John McClain reported that the pick is a 7th-rounder that could become a 6th round pick in 2016.

Fitzpatrick started 12 games in 2014, setting a career-high with 63.1% completion and a 95.3 passer rating. But he was plagued by injuries and poor play for long stretches, and the emergence of QB Ryan Mallett made Fitzpatrick expendable.
The deal makes sense for the Jets who hired former Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey as their offensive coordinator. When Gailey coached in Buffalo, Fitzpatrick recorded three straight seasons with over 3,000 passing yards and over 20 TDs.
In 2011, his best year with the Bills, Fitzpatrick recorded 3,832 passing yards – third most in Bills history – and finished 6th in the NFL in completions and attempts, though he led the NFL in interceptions with 23.
