New Zealand Warriors have signed Wests Tigers back-rower Bodene Thompson on a three-year deal.
The 26-year-old Kiwi made his NRL debut with the Gold Coast Titans in 2009 and spent the last two seasons with Wests.
Thompson was a late call-up to New Zealand’s Four Nations squad, but is yet to earn his first cap.
Warriors coach Andrew McFadden said he was thrilled Thompson would be joining the club.
“Bodene’s a quality addition to our squad, a player with a great attitude and work ethic who has impressed everyone who has worked with him,” he said.
“From the moment I first saw him play at NRL level I’ve been impressed with the way he goes about his work.
“He’s an 80-minute back rower who’s really going to add plenty to our squad and he’ll also ensure there’s huge competition for spots. I’m really excited we’ve secured him.”
The Warriors also confirmed they have granted an early release to back-rower Jayson Bukuya who will return to Sydney on compassionate grounds.
“All we want is the best for him and for his family,” he said.
“While his form suffered during the season, we appreciate the effort he put in.”
Bukuya leaves after one season and 18 matches with the Warriors.
