Liverpool couldn’t snatch a win against ten man Newcastle…
Simon Mignolet – 6
The Belgian could not nothing about Cabaye’s brilliant opener, and wasn’t at fault for the second either. Hasn’t made a notable mistake all season.
Kolo Toure – 6
Didn’t do too much wrong, but was sloppy in possession in the first-half like the rest of the side.
Martin Skrtel – 6
Relatively solid, although his poor passing made it difficult for the Reds to build anything from the back.
Mamadou Sakho – 6 (Luis Alberto – 7)
Sakho will probably drop to the bench in favour of Daniel Agger next time out. The giant Frenchman looked clumsy at times, and was hauled off early in the second half. The young Spanish replacement looked promising, however.
Glen Johnson – 6 (Raheem Sterling – 5)
Did ok down the right in a wing-back role in his first game since injury. Tired in the second half though, and was not at his dynamic best.
Aly Cissokho – 6
Made a fantastic last ditch tackle in the second half when Newcastle were through on goal. The Frenchman was dynamic and powerful up the left flank on his first Premier League start, but the Reds arguably would have been more effective with Jose Enrique starting.
Jordan Henderson – 6
As combative as ever, but Liverpool missed the passing and interceptions of Lucas in the middle. The Brazilian should slot in next time out.
Steven Gerrard – 7
Started to control the game when Newcastle tired in the second half, and coolly slotted his penalty in the first-half. Looks like he could do with a rest after two gruelling England matches though.
Victor Moses – 5
The quicker Coutinho returns the better, for manager Brendan Rodgers. Moses showed his limitations as a no.10, and although his running was direct and quick, his ability to link the midfield and attack was lacking.
Luis Suarez – 5
His worst game for the Reds since his return from suspension. Suarez was isolated and frustrated in the second half, but did assist his strike partner for the equaliser.
Daniel Sturridge – 6
Missed a hatfull of chances in the second half to give Liverpool victory. Did score however to give the Reds a second equaliser, and has now bagged seven Premier League goals this term.
