Cabaye staying at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have rubbished reports that midfielder Yohan Cabaye has undergone a medical at Monaco, according to the Independent.
French TV station L’Equipe 21 claimed that the 27-year-old had completed an examination with the newly promoted Ligue 1 club ahead of a deal believed to be worth more than £20m.
Cabaye’s has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer, with PSG, Roma and Tottenham all said to be tracking the playmaker.
The France international admitted on French TV last week that he’d be interested in a move to Manchester United, but he has not asked Newcastle for a transfer and the Toon are determined to keep hold of the player who has established himself as a pivotal part of Alan Pardew’s squad since arriving for Lille for just £4.25m in 2011.
Monaco, backed by Russian billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev, have already made a splash in the transfer market this summer, signing Porto duo James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho, and Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao.
But sources at St James’ have insisted that Cabaye is not set to become the latest big-name to join Claudio Ranieri’s side and say there has been no offers for the set-piece specialist.
