Chelsea transfer news
Bamford has been in superb form in the Championship this season with Middlesbrough, hitting the back of the net on 17 occasions to help Aitor Karanka’s side reach the playoffs.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are eager to bring the 21-year-old to St James’ Park next season, but will have to fight off interest from Premier League rivals Southampton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
Bamford was last month named Championship Player of the Year at the Football League Awards, but it is believed Chelsea are yet to open contract talks with the attacker.
The England youth international is reportedly keen to test himself in the Premier League, but his chances at Chelsea would be limited with the Blues linked to a number of world-class strikers.
According to the report, Newcastle is also interested in loaning Manchester United youngster James Wilson, however it is believed Louis van Gaal is reluctant to send the attacker to St James’ Park.
After scoring just 36 goals in 34 games this season, Newcastle are in need to bolster its stocks in the final third.
While unproven at Premier League level, Bamford could provide the x-factor the Toon Army so dearly crave.
