The Knights’ NRL season goes from bad to worse ahead of their round 10 game against Manly.
The Newcastle Knights staff will be wondering if a curse has been placed on this season after seeing star centre Joey Leilua limp from the training field on Friday, Back Page Lead reports.
While an exact diagnosis is not yet confirmed, Knights staff say the outlook does not look good for Leilua, who has been one of the shining lights in what has otherwise been a dim season on the field for Newcastle.
The biggest fear is that he will be sidelined for several weeks in the best case scenario, with the news coming at the worst possible time for Wayne Bennett and his men.
With just two wins from their first nine games, only a slightly better for-and-against is saving the Knights from owning the outright 16th place in the competition with games against New Zealand, Wests Tigers, Sydney Roosters and Parramatta coming up.
