The Knights have signed the youngster for the rest of the 2014 NRL season.
The Newcastle Knights have announced the signing of young prop Sam Mataora for the remainder of the 2014 NRL season.
Mataora was released by the Raiders, where he played 33 games since making his debut with the club in 2010.
The 23-year-old played his junior football in Queensland before joining the Raiders in 2009.
Knights recruitment manager Peter Mullholland said the Cook Islands international would be a welcome addition to the Knights, but would have to prove himself.
“Sam was looking for a new opportunity,” he said.
“He is young, adds size to our pack, he has a good work ethic and we have no doubt he will want to prove himself at the Knights.”
Mataora will join training the the Knights’ NSW Cup side, before linking up with the full-time squad when they return from the bye next week.
