Cabaye refused to play against West Ham this weekend…
Yohan Cabaye refused to play in Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with West Ham yesterday, in order to force through a move away from Tyneside, reports BBC Sport.
Arsenal lodged a £10m bid for the French midfielder last week which Newcastle rejected out of hand – and manager Alan Pardew was annoyed by the ‘disrespectful’ timing of the offer.
The 27-year-old French midfielder is desperate to leave St. James’ Park though, and has refused to play for Newcastle. Despite Pardew’s continued statements that he wants to keep his best player, it would be difficult to imagine a situation where Cabaye could now stay at the club.
“It is quite simple – we need to resolve the situation,” said Pardew.
“We need to get ourselves in a position where if he stays, great, and if he doesn’t stay we need to get someone equally as good.”
The under pressure boss is looking forward to the end of the transfer window, as he feels constant transfer rumours are unsettling his squad.
“There should be business from us, business that is right for Newcastle where our fans get in a position where they really want to believe in the team,” Pardew added.
“It’s difficult at the moment. We have big clubs filling our players with disharmony.
“If it is a situation where he leaves the football club, we have got to be stronger. That’s my aim when the window shuts.”
Arsenal are expected to return with another bid at some point this week – with Newcastle expected to accept anything between £15m and £20m.
